Fitting advice:
If you have prosthesis on one side, fit your bra to the other side and then try to fit the prosthesis to match.
The bra needs to feel comfortable but also to give you the confidence that it will hold your prosthesis in place - this means that the back band needs to be quite firm against you. You’ll probably need to adjust the shoulder straps.
Some bras come with built in pockets for your prosthesis. It’s really a matter of personal preference and how you feel as to whether you wear this kind of bra – some women feel that they give a slightly less natural look as they can pull away from you if you lean forward.
If you have had a double mastectomy, fit the bra to you. Then add both your prostheses and adjust the bra until you feel comfortable and secure.
Move around: raise your arms; lean forward; make sure the bra stays in place and you feel confident in it.
If you’re trying on mastectomy swimwear, lie down to check that everything stays in place. If you intend to actually go swimming, try a few different stokes to check for movement and look into getting a special swim pad that you can slip into the costume’s pockets.
Most importantly, remember you are a survivor and you should be proud of yourself.
